I had an idea for a music video while working on some songs with a few friends of mine today. We were messing around with a few melody ideas and came up with an indie-rock idea about a young couple who have spent the day at the beach and as the sun goes down, they are discussing what to do that night and eventually decide on a drive in movie. The couple is young - right around 20 years old - and they haven't been dating too long. Their chemistry is fun to watch; lots of smiles and flirtatious glances, but the audience gets an overall feeling that they are comfortable around each other. Ok, enough back story.
The music video starts with a blurred, ground level shot looking out to the sun setting on the ocean. All you hear are the waves crashing on the beach as the shot slowly comes into focus and the first riff comes in. The camera then turns around to scan the beach and we see people walking around and packing up for the night and it focuses in on a silver car with the door facing the ocean opened, and we see two people's legs hanging out of the back seat. The next shot pans up from their feet as the lyrics come in, and the girl is leaned back in the boys lap as he sits up against the closed car door and he's smoking a cigarette. They are passing the cigarette back and forth and talking to one another and they're laughing together and watching the sunset. "So, what's it gonna be?" At this lyric, they make eye contact and the girl shrugs her shoulders and the boy says, "maybe a drive in movie," along with the next lyric. The next part of the song is an eight bar guitar riff and their will be a collection of shots of them packing up and getting in the car, driving away from the beach as the shot pans up to look out at the sunset again. Then they will arrive at the drive in and the shot will look similar to the image I have posted.
The next shot will be low and from behind of them getting closer on top of the car and smiling as the movie previews start. Next would be a medium shot of the couple from the hood of the car looking back at them as they talk, which coincides with the lyrics. The boy puts his left arm around the girl and pulls her closer and she leans her head on his shoulder and the camera switched to a side profile of the boy as he looks back up at the screen. At this point it is dark outside and the colors from the movie screen are seen changing on their faces. The next shot is a close up on the girl who has a hopeful look on her face to go along with the lyric, "you could be my only...one." She smiles, and the camera turns to look at the screen from the gap between their heads and the screen comes into focus showing the band playing as the guitar riff comes back in.
